<p class="Paragraph">In <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> you can register different data sources. The contents of the data fields are then available to you, in fields and controls for example. The address book which perhaps you already use on your system is such a data source, e.g. an LDAP server or a Netscape address book.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">In the templates and AutoPilots from <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname>, fields are used for the contents of the address book. When you activate those fields, the general fields we have used in the templates are automatically replaced with the actual fields used in your system.</p>

<p class="Paragraph">In order for the replacement to take place, you must tell <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> which address book you use. The dialog asking for this information appears automatically the first time you, for example, activate a business letter template. You can also call the dialog by following the steps listed below.</p>
<p class="Head2">Address Data Source AutoPilot</p>
<p class="Paragraph">To call this AutoPilot, choose <span class="T1">File - AutoPilot - Address Data Source</span>. This AutoPilot is described in the <help:link Id="68434" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Help</help:link>.</p>
<p class="Head2">Manual Registration of Existing Address Book</p>
<p class="Paragraph">In the <span class="T1">Data source</span> box, select the system address book or the data source you want to use as address book.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">If you have not yet registered the system address book in <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> as the data source, click the<span class="T1">Administrate</span> button. This takes you to the <span class="T1">Administrate Data Sources</span> dialog, in which you can register your address book as a new data source in <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname>. You can read further how to do this under <span class="T1">System address book as data source</span>.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Under <span class="T1">Field assignment</span>, you can set the fields for company, department, first name, etc. to the actual field names used in your address book.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">After this point, your data source is recognized in <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> as the address book. If you now open a template from the <span class="T1">Business Correspondence</span> category, <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> can automatically correctly insert the fields for a form letter.</p>

<p class="Head2">System Address Book as Data Source</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Choose <span class="T1">File - Templates - Address Book Source</span> and click the <span class="T1">Administrate</span> button to call the <help:link Id="66167" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><span class="T1">Data Source Administration</span></help:link> dialog (see also instructions above). Another way to call the same dialog is to choose <span class="T1">Tools - Data Sources</span>.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">If you selected "LDAP address book", the <span class="T1">Data Source Administration</span> dialog will display a <help:link Id="68410" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><span class="T1">LDAP</span></help:link> tab page, where you enter the LDAP server and its parameters.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Go to the <help:link Id="66174" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><span class="T1">Tables</span></help:link> tab page. Mark the tables that should be visible in <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname>.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">On the <span class="T1">General</span> tab page, enter a name for this data source in the <span class="T1">Name</span> box. Close the dialog by clicking <span class="T1">OK</span>.</p>
